Fragile Questions

The last time I touched your face Still burns within me In vain I search for a trace Of familiarity Could I have foreseen Couldn't I at least have been reminded The anger and pain that remains When the loss has subsided? The endless miles of tree padded lanes I've traveled them all The traces of raindrops on the panes I sharply recall Will I ever heal Will I at least keep on dreaming Awake when the church bells ring To find myself screaming? I relive that day every time that I sit here and stare at the phone I dare not open the door when I know you're not coming home Why you, why me, why not somebody else Can I face these fragile questions? If not for the truth then at least for myself But then I relapse into silence I go through the motions each day Without heart or soul I don't care for the plot of this play Nor for any goal Can I still go on Can I at least find some meaning In the questions, I'm so scared to ask Too afraid to believe in? I sit here and watch every minute of the day pass me by I can't set myself to stand up and take hold, I can't even try Why you, why me, why not somebody else Can I face these fragile questions? If not for the truth then at least for myself But then I relapse into silence
