I'm staring at this empty page alone
With a brand new pen
I'm lonely and I'm sleepless and
I'm worried about the shape that I'm in
I found a little lover, across the ocean
With a dog, who makes me smile
But the flights have all been canceled
So I won't be seeing her for quite a while
I bought a little house in a small town
On a river running free
I just had to leave the city
Because I believe that it was killing me
And I can park my car on the driveway
And just get around the town on my bike
And no one here knows me
And no one knowing me is what I like

Scraping needles across the vinyl
Turn it up, nobody minds
You ain't seen a soul in ages
Except when you're peeking out the blinds
It's so dull when loneliness becomes your everyday
But that's what's going on today

I caught myself a cancer
It's been hiding out on the left side of my neck
It's probably from my job, but I don't care
I'm thankful for the check
And I'm grateful to be working
Even if this schedule's got me in a twirl
With 24 out on the streets
Then 48 in hiding from the world

Conversations with the mirror
Writing songs to fill the time
Sleepless nights of making salsa
Jalapeño, salt, and lime
Seeing the sun rise and set in a vastly different way
And that's what's going on today

I'm writing on a page that's full of scribbles
And thinking about my friends
I'm about to open up my phone 
To record this song and send it out to them
I'll probably then go ride my bike downtown
By the square and look at stars
And enjoy the quiet evening with the howling wind
The ghosts, and empty bars

I'm sending words of love and kindness
And writing down the lessons learned
Cuz we all know the time we're given
May not be the time we're earned
It's so cool the beauty found in every shade of gray
And that's what's going on today
