I look back to a time when I was so religious
I know I hurt a lot of friends and family up in it
I was so misled by the words pastors preach
False prophets really wolves out here preying on the sheep
And I was so young, swayed in my teens
Thought everyone around me needed church to be free
But really church was the very thing enslaving me
Confusing me with all of its religiosity
And I ain't saying church is bad, please don't get it twisted
But God is so much more, I'm painting bigger pictures
I took a step back, moved out of state
Almost got divorced, had a lawyer on the case
Forced to evaluate my values and beliefs
I searched around the world and looked deep within me
What I found is that God's not as complex as we think
God is love and mercy, simple as can be

In the moment, in the silence
When it's me and my own voice
I start to listen and reminisce then
Out of here I made my choice

Now I'm here to stay

Recently my homie Sal invited me to pray
But what might strike you odd is that we come from different faiths
Saleh is a Muslim, devout in many ways
I admire devotion so I went with him to pray
He bowed and said his prayers while I bowed and I said mine
We both believe in one God, who's true and is divine
The God of all creation is the God on both our minds
So though we have some differences, our prayers were both aligned
And when I left that room, I felt so much at peace
I realize God's beyond these holy books and rosaries
So many different scriptures, so many different laws
The greatest is to love, and it out stands them all
The God of All Creation, The God of Abraham
He's God of every nation, the worlds in His hands
And if you simply seek Him, open-hearted, open mind
The God of love and mercy is exactly who you'll find

I enter in Your presence, and my spirit is ascending
I look back upon my past, but You forgave all of my sinning
