Guess I'm seeing how things are rolling out

I looked at my son
He said "Dad I love you" - I told him I love him - but never could tell him enough
I gave him a hug and told him I'm proud - wish I had that coming up
Even though it hurts cause I never seen it 
Still I give it to him cause I know he needs it
Never would I really want to be the reason 
Why - why he never heard nobody ever say he could
Why he never seen a man treat his Mama good
Why he wanted to dream - but never seen nobody do it
I wanted to lead by example
He's looking to me for all the answers 
And I'm still trying to find them myself son
I'mma change the game 
As a kid - I never seen a man hold it down
Looked at Mama workin all those hours
Her man - all he do - is abuse his power
I told myself I would never be the abusive type
So I grind for the fam - and I do what I can 
Pray the Most High always leads me right
If you have love in your heart then you can get respected
If you have hate in your heart then you might get rejected
It's best if you don't like it then you decide to change
Looked in the mirror - that's what I said - in my younger days

A lot of mess you can get in - if you don't take heed and listen
I'm just wishing that even when you're broke you'll still pay attention
And laziness is the worse drug - don't get addicted
I'm witcha when you're right - but I'll still be here when you're wrong
Just know cause you're gettin older and you got a little money - that don't mean that you're grown
I know that everything don't apply right now - but one day your mind will change
