Well I woke up one morning and nothing felt the same 
Still I put on my best pair of boots and went out to start the day 
I didn't mind the ramblin with my baby beside me 
Staring out the window we could see all the living 
Then I recalled the night before something gave my mind a scare 
It was on the television it was on the news it was everywhere 
A singing legend had passed away in the darkness of the night 
And in that terrible moment this world had lost a life 
In my rush to hurry out the door to find another drink
Distracted by the hurt inside so much I could barely think 
I went into a local bar to drink away my cares 
But I didn't know that night I'd find what awaited for me there 
I ran into an old friend who's voice shook great with fear 
And in the midst of the band playing his words I could barely hear 
He cried out that an old friend from our childhood had died
And in that shocking moment I broke down and cried

Life can be so scary You've got to cherish every day 
When you sit and think about the life you've been given 
Is all but here to stay 
Yeah life can drive you crazy and it'll keep me up at nights
If I sit and think about how we're all born to die

Then I woke up the next morning and I put on my best shirt 
Still the pain from the night before proceeded to hurt 
I couldn't get him off my thoughts 
I couldn't shake him from my head 
To visualize that old friend from my childhood dead
And I don't wish no harm on nobody anymore 
Because I've learned the hard way
That death is surely knocking at my door 
And even though the legend of No-Show ain't ever going to end 
I wrote this song for David to immortalize my friend

At his funeral the pastor spoke and the message was quite clear 
That David's death came too soon and felt all too real 
But even though he was misunderstood he ain't gonna die in vain
