The Tempest

The Tempest is a play by William Shakespeare, probably written in 1610–1611, and thought to be one of the last plays that he wrote alone. After the first scene, which takes place on a ship at sea during a tempest, the rest of the story is set on a remote island, where Prospero, a complex and contradictory character, lives with his daughter Miranda, and his two servants: Caliban, a savage monster figure, and Ariel, an airy spirit. The play contains music and songs that evoke the spirit of enchantment on the island. It explores many themes, including magic, betrayal, revenge, and family. In Act IV, a wedding masque serves as a play-within-a-play, and contributes spectacle, allegory, and elevated language. Although The Tempest is listed in the First Folio as the… more »

Dragons emerge from the mist
Pushed onto this foreign shore
If the Other decides to resist
This day surely begins with war

Visions of far away and too long ago
Of family, fire, hearth and home
Axe in my hands crafted for the trees
Now pointed at the enemy
Sons driven too soon into men
Will I ever see them again

Across the stormy seas
We explore, build and conquer
To create our destiny
A brotherhood forged in blood and honor
Warriors from the ocean
We are Odin's Chosen

Tonight around the fire
May tomorrow become our funeral pyre
On our shields still and frozen
Fearless warriors from the ocean
We will forever be
Odin's Chosen

From my village
Rowing through the fjords
Nature's bounty swimming
Underneath my oars
Blood pledged to clan and kin
We sail as he who dares wins

Floating through these hills
On my faithful steed
Earth's vahalla found
With my wife, a fire and cask of mead
Fear not your final hour
Lest you be thought a coward

Across the stormy seas
We explore, build and conquer
To create our destiny
A brotherhood forged in blood and honor
Warriors from the ocean
We are Odin's Chosen

Tonight around the fire
May tomorrow become our funeral pyre
On our shields still and frozen
Fearless warriors from the ocean
We will forever be
Odin's Chosen

Amanita fed to the bears
To rob them of their fears
Cast ahead to break their line
Forward, to my death I am resigned

Hurdling over their fallen
As the Other closes in
They will all find their calling
At the hands of Odin's Chosen

Across the stormy seas
We explore, build and conquer
To create our destiny
A brotherhood forged in blood and honor
Warriors from the ocean
We are Odin's Chosen

Tonight around the fire
May tomorrow become our funeral pyre
On our shields still and frozen
Fearless warriors from the ocean
We will forever be
Odin's Chosen

Quiet descends at last
Still weapons glint in the hot sun
We are last on the crimson field
Among the bitter flotsam

Through blood, sweat, iron and steel
By longboat and hellfire
Morning survived utter surreal
This land now joins the empire
