I came across a newspaper from a long time ago
Told the story of a country girl from down by the bayou
Who ran away to the big city
And boy was she pretty
At least that's what her photograph did show

Met her fate aged sixteen, June nineteen fifty-five
Found stabbed in a hotel bathroom and that's where she died
Taken before her time
Cut down in her prime
So sad I could have cried

The cop assigned to the case was detective Tobias Wood
Thirty years on the force he did everything he could
But while he walked the walk
It seems nobody would talk
Though he scoured the whole neighbourhood

No suspects, no evidence, no motives were found
