The trains stopped running an hour ago
This night's been silenced by ice and snow

But inside this diner the kitchen is warm
Turkey dinners soup so warm

The waitress takes my order she calls me hon
If not for this blizzard her shift would be done
I don't mind she says, I learned long ago
When God throws wrenches, she winks, go with the snow
The guy at counter next sitting next to me says
Amen to that, silently
I give him a nod and raise my coffee cup
Here's to knowing when to give up, it's time

Corner booth sits a family
Was this their Christmas plan, did they have somewhere else to be
All settled in, busboy's cleared their dishes

Mom laughs, if nothing else we have learned how to bend
Those kids give that side eye glance to each other
A teenage thing between a sister and brother
