Like all other great nights, this one too must end
But don't despair, we shall see each other again
We started as strangers, now we're proud to call you our friends
We've bonded through tales of swindlers and dragons, pirates and villainous queens
Heroes who let the truth be heard and shed the weight of their dreams
We've pondered dark fates and fortunes, hubris and prophecies
We never lost sight of our drinks when we sent a demon back into the sea
When sadness was all-consuming, and the sorrow seemed too great a cost
You reforged your mettle in the name of those you'd lost
To truly temper and cool the tip of the spear
Give your undying love to those who you hold dear
And forgive those who put you through hell
From the bottom of our hearts we wish you the fondest of farewells
I was bitter enough to fight only for the money
And I was naïve enough to think the king really cared for me
Maeve laid bare the truth that should have been plain to see
I'll never forget the pain I felt when I couldn't save her in the end
And I'll never forget how she treated me, a true comrade and friend
We'll all miss her dearly, but before we see her again
She bound me to a sacred promise with her dying breath
A vow worth more than glory or the spoils of any quest
She asked me to be the one to look out for our new family
As we claw and scratch and pummel and bash our way into the pages of history
With the sea at our backs and the salt on the air
The wide open plains, the wind in our hair
With fury in our hearts for our friends who've died
Into the mist we ride
Beyond the tranquil clearing, they see the walls of Glenbeigh
The ramparts hand-built long ago now crumbling in decay
And where the moat blockades wrought iron gates never breached
The thousand-strong army of Volsung steels itself for a bloody siege
I know we've had our disagreements, but our hearts as one beat true
Take up the mantle, brotherMaeve left it just for you
Lead like she knew you could do
Brave knights, raise your swords with me in the name of our friend Maeve
Let's show the Volsung that they chose the wrong country to invade
We'll send them all into a watery grave
They spur their horses to action and enter the shroud of the mist
Silent like the plague when it delivers its fatal kiss
The Volsung move to ford the mire, unaware of their dark fate
When they spot the doom approaching, it is far too late
Outnumbered but not outwitted, they loose a warrior's call
With a stomping of hooves and a clash of steel the invaders begin to fall
Some descend into icy depths, others struggle to hold their ground
Cormac and Fionn rally the troops and bring the charge back around
We'll be hopeless in battle – we're exhausted and blind drunk
So, let's give these wicked shits a good and frigid dunk
The trumpet sounds in the misty dawn
A solemn tribute for those who've gone
The sun beams through the castle walls
And illuminates the knights who gave their all
The exalted heroes march unto the throne
Defenders of Glenbeigh and its mighty home
With the king to host a feast, their request most adamant
Cormac and Fionn make their way up to the battlements
Honor and glory, recognition from the king
From the way he looked at you, I thought he'd kiss your ring
The people are safe, the war is won
So why the hell do you look so glum?
I remember the river, the drinks beside the fire
Trading tales as the smoke climbed higher
Nothing about this feels quite right
Without Maeve to join us in the celebrations tonight
We'll be showered with riches, we'll be in all the songs
But in my stout keep by the sea I won't be satisfied for long
I once idolized the great commanders and warriors of yore
But if this is the fate of a hero, I don't want to play the hero anymore
We were one against a hundred, and we brought about their end
This is no mere victory, kid – this is the stuff of legend
And wherever Maeve is now, she's as proud as can be
We won a war and came out unscathed with one hell of a story
But before we raise the banners and sound the horn
To herald the arrival of a clear new morn
Before we let the painters and the poets have their say
There's one debt we still have to pay
Hello, noble bards of the Swindling Serpent
With open arms we've summoned you to dance with us tonight
Enjoy your second home, be one with your new family
As our tuneful saviors, you will be enshrined in the halls of our homeland
Look to the sun shining through the rain
Filling our horizon is the kingdom we've reclaimed
Through comedy and tragedy we've remembered our names
You're the legends of the mist who stoked our dying flame
