The Stoic

The Stoic is a novel by Theodore Dreiser, written in 1945 and first published in 1947. It is the conclusion of his Trilogy of Desire, which includes The Financier (1912) and The Titan (1914). This series of novels depicts Frank Cowperwood, a businessman based on the real-life streetcar tycoon Charles Yerkes. Dreiser had attempted to complete his trilogy in the early 1930s, but he was unable to begin The Stoic until near the end of his life; he died before he could finish the manuscript, and his widow Helen assembled the novel's final pages. more »

Silent rain, that pain that every man fears
Silent rain, that quiet storm only that man hears
The heart reveals travels, some simple, some unclear
Post-traumatic stress, undresses the punctures and spears

The feeling, when you get it, you kind of think you're alone
Can't really vibe with people, they don't really fit aura tone
Hopelessness breeds apathy, so it appears
Then you wonder why he grips the "saber" to shed bloody tears

People think they got the answers when they know your problems
When wisdom key don't fit, they be reluctant to solve them
The windows of a mortal tell pleasure and pain
But only the "squeegy man" knows which glass is stained

When you scream, it seems like nobody hears you

It's like loving somebody, but they don't really feel you
Drunken hearts speak truth, while sober minds just lie
Fear of being judge on thoughts inside
Shedding silent rain

Lord please shelter me from this silent rain
Never knew my own pleasure could cause me pain
Never again would I put faith, in the hands of a mortal
Still, I yearn for this pain to enter eternal portal

Lord please shelter me from this silent rain
Never knew my own pleasure could cause me pain
Never again would I put faith, in the hands of a mortal
Still, I yearn for this pain to enter eternal portal

Silent Rain, the grudge that was held for years
Silent Rain, unexpected death of loved ones appear
Sandbag theory, made to secure protection
Cause every man's greatest fear is rejection
People rarely discuss personal problems

Because their pain is precious
Don't know this element is a 3rd of your essence
By all means, to smother pain or throb for more pleasure
Regardless of its situations, or it's drastic measures
Hammer thrust in clutch, blow them to dust
Bloody hand of his saber leaves his time to rust

Behind frames, projecting fierce water was his aim
But in turn, he drowned within his monsoppie's rain
Sometimes on bending knees
I tend to question thee
But, then I question myself

Asking "Why not me"
No sin goes unpunished
Even if I don't do wrong
Inherit death through eternal flesh song
Poetry in motion

Lord please shelter me from this silent rain
Never knew my own pleasure could cause me pain
Never again would I put faith, in the hands of a mortal
Still, I yearn for this pain to enter eternal portal

Lord please shelter me from this silent rain
Never knew my own pleasure could cause me pain
Never again would I put faith, in the hands of a mortal
Still, I yearn for this pain to enter eternal portal

Silent Rain, the puddles of low self-esteem
That flows within the hearts of every mortal's being
The feeling of emptiness, when there's no one to love
Rejection, be the blueprints to being a thug
Dollar bills his only God, religion is crime
Looking to face the world, with a grudge and a 9
Females, got it worse when it comes to this picture

Dead beat dads ain't around
So they look for father figures within a man.
Relationships falling apart, but fear of leaving
Cause loneliness scorn broken hears
Or maybe, it happened back at a young age
Like being molested or raped, when your trust is betrayed

By somebody you loved, an unforgiven sin
So you use your beauty to seek revenge on all men
Please remember, the saber's never mightier than the pen
Give it to God, so you can shine again
Shedding silent rain

Lord please shelter me from this silent rain
Never knew my own pleasure could cause me pain
Never again would I put faith, in the hands of a mortal
Still, I yearn for this pain to enter eternal portal

Lord please shelter me from this silent rain
Never knew my own pleasure could cause me pain
Never again would I put faith, in the hands of a mortal
Still, I yearn for this pain to enter eternal portal

Lord please shelter me from this silent rain
Never knew my own pleasure could cause me pain
Never again would I put faith, in the hands of a mortal
Still, I yearn for this pain to enter eternal portal

Lord please shelter me from this silent rain
Never knew my own pleasure could cause me pain
Never again would I put faith, in the hands of a mortal
Still, I yearn for this pain to enter eternal portal

Lord please shelter me from this silent rain
Never knew my own pleasure could cause me pain
Never again would I put faith, in the hands of a mortal
Still, I yearn for this pain to enter eternal portal

Lord please shelter me from this silent rain

Never again would I put faith, in the hands of a mortal
Still, I yearn for this pain to enter eternal portal

Never again would I put faith, in the hands of a mortal
Still, I yearn for this pain to enter eternal portal
