When I learned how to skate
And I started to hate
Everything that I was told
I would never do
By the teachers in my school
My dad gave me my first guitar
My cousin taught me how to play
All of our favorite songs

With my long hair and black nails
Skating through living hell
I'm not complaining
That shit made me famous
Throughout the halls of my school Breaking all of the rules
I just wanted to be in a punk rock band

High school was a different world
One time I got detention for singing Family Reunion
And I loved this girl
But she was into country
And talked kinda funny
So I started to write some of those songs she liked
And that kinda changed my life
But I always knew somewhere inside just where my roots lie
