WHY?
By: George F Newton
Why? Why?...Why?
Why must these things be so?
Why?...Why?...Why?
Why is hate allowed to grow?

The red race is banished from their native land
Nearly wiped out by war and disease
Manifest Destiny carried out as planned
Leaving settlers to do as they please
Why?...Why?...Whyyy?
Why is genocide met with pride?

The black race is snatched by their brother
And sold on the block to another
Isolated from their families
Made field hands and wet nurse Mammys
Pawns of the mercantile trade
The yellow race toils on the rails
To clear a path for other eastern males
Bound by rickshaw, laundry or opium den
Never to be recognized as men
Immigrants treated as miscreants
Huddled masses banished to tenement squalor
Robber baron minions exhausted to make millions
Factory fodder bound for fields of Potter
Why?...Why? Whyyy?
Why must greed be most men's creed?
Women are treated worst of all
No matter which race, creed or color they fall
If all of us are equal in the eyes of the Lord
Then why can't our freedom be restored?

I wish that something could be done
I wish that freedom could be won
I wish I didn't have to cry
Or even have to ask you why?
Why must these things be so?
Why must the-ese things be so?
