Asquarius

Asquarius (1992) is the third studio album released by the Leeds-based indie rock band Cud which reached number 30 in the UK album chart. Q magazine included it in their 1998 issue as part of their essential dozen Britpop records to have in your collection. The album was reissued in 2007 in expanded form. The album was recorded at Woodlands in Castleford, except for "Possessions", which was recorded at Woodhouse in Leeds in January 1992. Mixing took place at Jacobs in Farnham, and Metropolis in London in February 1992. The recordings were mainly produced by Jon Langford, except for "Possessions", which was produced by Dave Creffield; the latter served as engineer throughout the sessions, with assistance from Neil Amor. more »

It's easier now to measure up
Than it's ever been
By graduation, they'll have never been a kid
Predisposed buzzcut
A predestined grunt
With adulation, they'll bring about a generous bid
Ole' Uncle Sam
Can't count on both hands
How many young soldiers he's educated

So thank your lucky stars
They do their part
In bringing us to reckoning
Give me a number please
I need something to remember me by
Give me a number please
Don't leave my identity to me
Don't leave it to me
No travel benefits
Could set me free
But that's good old-fashioned equity

With prescription drugs and a little luck
They'll work their way back up
Their skin starts to rust
As they wait for the bus
The rain filling their styrofoam cup
The chain of command
Here in the homeland
Will harvest your trust
Only for war do they lust

So thank your lucky stars
They do their part
In bringing us to reckoning
Give me a number please
I need something to remember me by
Give me a number please
Don't let my identity exceed
It's set time in memory
Then I'll be free
And that's good old-fashioned mortality

So thank
Your lucky stars
That our education
Was even subpar
Set quite a high bar
But we left our mark, am I right?
Brothers in arms, am I right?
So don't be alarmed. We're alright

I want you
A freshly-picked youth
Ripe for the troop
And a three-volley salute
