I can hear you breathe
2AM so softly, oh
My brain's still wide awake
Private moments I've chased
Picture the future and I hope I say
"I still remember the moment I fell
Out there on the stairs and your apartment smell"
Oh, you made me smile and you did it well
What if they knew
This is The Story I've Waited to Tell
What if they knew about you
When you look at me
All my strength becomes weak, oh
My hand fits right in yours
Put these scars in the drawer
You whisper, "we don't need them anymore"
I still remember the moment I fell
Out there on the stairs and your apartment smell
Oh, you made me smile and you did it well
I hope they know
This is The Story I've Waited to Tell
Chapter one takes me back to midnights
Lost in thought, locked my car
Looked up and saw lights
Chapter two there was you in the window
Stolen stares, tattered chairs
You moved in below
Chapter 3 it was me searching for your name
Doorstep, package left
Couldn't help it, I checked
And I'd do it again if I could
If I could…
I can hear you sing
The song I wrote at sixteen, oh (just form your own galaxy)
2008 me cried
Forced out but I survived
I haven't thought about that in some time
But I still remember the moment I fell
Out there on the stairs and your apartment smell
Oh, you made me smile and you did it well
The old me's glad
This is The Story I've Waited to Tell
Grocery bag ripped
Typical me tripped
Two steps up, I messed up
Scraped my knee like I'm five
On your way out
Saw you bend down
Four green eyes so tongue tied
You're still here after all this time
After all this time…
I still remember the moment I fell
Out there on the stairs and your apartment smell
You wake to remind me you were happy to help
Then you say
"This is The Story I've Waited to Tell"
