All the guys went on studying, took a job

Nobody really understands
Nor do they try
They have parties and sex every weekend
While you let life pass you by
When you're bummed out they teach you diet and sport
And how to enjoy clerical work
Yet you're still leaning over an empty bottle
Still looking for its bottom
You used to read me your own Portuguese poems
Translate 'em in English though it all seemed meaningless
I never expected I would experience such symptoms, I mean
Drink one more beer watching late-night sitcoms, without a blink
Smoke one more cigarette, stroll along storefronts before heading home
And realize for once that I don't care, actually
That I'm bored
That I'm lonely
That I stopped speaking words I don't believe in anymore
'Cause nobody lends a careful ear
Nobody even takes the time between a fast-food and a phone call
To slow their pace and notice these silences
It's all about this and that just making small talk
About hits but rarely 'bout misses
It scares me the way you left no trace
Sometimes I feel I might fade away
