As you all know, in the 10 years since the Hydran signal was first received
The scientific community has been working tirelessly on the goal of interstellar travel

This research has resulted in
Dramatic technological advances in  a number of key areas
Most notably nuclear fusion
And long-term suspended animation of human subjects

Based on these advances
And further breakthroughs considered likely
In other relevant fields of technology
And assuming significant sustained international investment
In focused intensive research and development programs
Into key outstanding scientific and technological questions, to whit
Inter-stellar propulsion
Relativistic-ready aerospace materials
Self-reparing and self- replicating machines
High flux electromagnetic field stabilisation
And into maximising the efficiency
And minimising the size and the weight
Of all these relevant technologies

And assuming all our efforts don't fall short

We believe that we can build a spaceship within a decade
Capable of carrying a human crew to Hydra
Spending most of the journey traveling at close to the speed of light
With the crew in a state of suspended animation

After the mission is complete
If the Hydran civilisation has the goodwill
And the technological capacity to assist with refueling
The crew will be able to return to Earth in a similar manner

The round trip mission time on Earth
Depends on the success of the international
Research and development programs outlined above
And in particular on the final choice of propulsion technology
But is unlikely to be much less than a thousand years

The maximum size of the crew also depends
On the success of the international R&D programs outlined above
But the number is expected to be very small
Most likely one
