Everybody need a friend
Let's talk about friendship
I remember growing up
My grandparents used to always get on me and tell me things like
Everybody's not your friend
And it used to confuse me so much
Because I thought I had a lot of friends
At school, around town, hanging with different crowds
But now, as an adult I understand completely what they mean
And I wanna tell y'all
I'm taking my friendship to a new level
I encourage you to take your friendships to another level
It's about taking pride in who you are
And understanding what you bring to the table
When you use energy at home
You turn those lights on
You turn your tv on
You turn that gas on
Duke Power is gonna send you an energy bill because energy costs
So understand, my energy is gonna cost you
It may not cost you money, but it's gonna cost you
You gotta have something going on to be my friend
It's just not living life and you're just having fun
Cuz life is not all about having fun
You gotta motivate me
I gotta motivate you
If you ain't even held me down in some kind of way then you're not my friend
We might be associates
I might be cool with you
But you're not my friend
If I ain't never heard your cry
If I ain't ever seen you struggle
And been through it with you in those trenches you're not my friend
If I ain't ever heard you pray, you're not my friend
We gotta take friendship to another level
My heart is big
And sometimes that gets us caught up
Because I want people to love me how I love them
And it don't always add up
You're on a different frequency than some of the people you hanging around
And that's why it's always a disconnect
Cuz they don't understand why you don't always call back
They don't understand why you not always at the parties
They don't understand why you don't always text back when they want you to
Because you got certain things going on that they don't understand
So you gotta hang around like minded people who gonna motivate you
Who gone make you get up when you don't wanna get up
Who gonna put you in the right perspective
And adjust your crown when you fall off a lil bit
Who gonna tell you you're wrong when you mess up sometimes
That's your friend
Not the people who gonna always encourage you to do crazy stuff outside of your character
It's crazy I had way more friends when I didn't know who I really was
I had way more friends when my goals wasn't aligned with God
I had way more friends when I wasn't married
I had way more friends when I was single
And living life as a bachelor
So you gotta understand that the people who really wanna see you do good
They gone tell you some things you may not wanna hear
They gone love you different
So understand we gone take friendship to a new level
It's about taking pride in who you are
Taking pride in what you bring to the table
And understanding your worth
Go through something with me
Spend some time with me
Support me
Be there for me
It ain't just about liking my pictures on Facebook and Instagram
It's not about reposting this and reposting that
Sometimes I just need you to listen to what I'm going through
Sometimes I just need you to help me out
That's what friendship is about
It's not about money
It's not about titles
Who did this last
And tic for tac this and tic for tac that
The love is unconditional
So take your friends to a new level
Real friends, I ain't got many
