There was a space I used to call my own
With satin luster affixed upon the wall
And in that place with nothing more than lines and boxes
I built a little world
Complete with losses and with gains
Old debts repaid new companies made
It started there with marker stains
I do what I can with styluses, pixels, electronic pens
I wander back to those days and I know that in time I'll be back there again

Across the open concept floor

One, two, three screens so big and bright The roar of vacuuming at night
My lonely ergonomic throne
My tangled cords
My wired phone
Wait for me until I hotel home

I had a room, a comfy corner cube
Where interaction bloomed and friends shared points of view
And talked and drew, and calculated the rate of tax
And now I'm way upstate
And even through the latency and insufficient lighting
We can still collaborate
And I'm learning to love shared documents, virtual boards and my dining room chair, but
If gravity's cruel and time is unfair, could it be
That the facial ID will no longer recognize me?
