I was always hoping for the best
Lest prepping for the worst
I went fishing for a prescription lens
To block out all the hurt
Working down and upstate
Getting paint on all my favorite shirts
All the while learning the harmonica
I was crying more and less
Laughing like my past was all the best
Nevertheless I pressed on trying
Trying for the moments in the silence
When I'd know that peace and quiet
Wasn't evil in disguises
So I'd show up and leave soon and
I'd increase my dose too
Drinking coffee strong
And everything else stronger
I'd seem to lose my taste for sweets
I'd seem to lose my faith in dreams
All the while learning the harmonica
It's funny how life it moves
Accelerates and blurs the truth
Left seeking in the bushes for my keys
Laughing at the sights to see
Resting when my mind's at ease
And girding up when love feels all too real
Well a blessed ride leaves love behind
And holds it close and closer while it's here
