There was a woman from Hempstead That went to the creek to get water Though it had run dry for years She was her fathers daughter He was a girl dad Memories of playing there as a youth Watching lily pads Amazed that the frogs ain't sink Papa called her stink'um cause She used to scrunch her face When she dropped a deuce In her pampers These days seems she was searching for answers Reminiscing on grandma singing Jesus Gave Me Water by Sam Cooke Her son soon diagnosed With testicular cancer That was a rough time But he eventually beat it Loss some hair in the process But it grew back Shed a few pounds Then got his weight up Once he could hold the food down Let go from his job Starting drinking More than a few rounds Through it all never hit her moms Or took out his frustration on her Not baby girl She kept him calm Used to read her Psalm one nineteen verse eleven Thy word I have hid in my heart That I might not sin against thee Still the devil roams free on the earth And the flesh weak Stay strong Never let them see you hurt Is what he used to say to her But him being gone is the pain That she couldn't refrain from Got his name tatted on her arm Her son The rebirth of his grandpa Though he never met him He posses his mannerisms It's genetics Love for sports He was athletic Basketball over baseball Same walk chicken legs Straight forward Great sense of humor That boy love to talk Not just to hear himself Paid attention conversation with this child Was like talking to an adult Has an old soul But couldn't over stand why his moms Seemed sad when they road past the creek Near their home She said one day I'll explain Your grandfather was a great man Firm but fair Couldn't bring herself to tell him He was slain by her brother His uncle he went to visit In Kingsboro Psychiatric Center Many years older She learned to live with it But never let it take her over True definition of a solider She returned to the creek From the beginning she knew That was the only place she'd find peace Surprised it was full From tears she cried all them years God listens and returned That glisten in her eyes Staring at the water she Could see her fathers reflection And herself as a child Every day is a blessing Is what she said Before she stepped in
