Elvis Aaron Presley (January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977), often referred to mononymously as Elvis, was an American singer and actor. Known as the "King of Rock and Roll", he is regarded as one of the most significant cultural figures of the 20th century. Presley's energized interpretations of songs and sexually provocative performance style, combined with a singularly potent mix of influences across color lines during a transformative era in race relations, led him to both great success and initial controversy. Presley was born in Tupelo, Mississippi, and relocated to Memphis, Tennessee, with his family when he was aged 13. Living shadows hunt me down but I got used to it
When I fought the darkest ones
You were right there fighting with me
I was caught up in my misery and never stopped to think
How did it all begin?
And I couldn't believe it
The roots of the storm that surround my youth
The ones that cut me through
Now I know, they come from you
The voices are getting loud
The hallways are getting dark
And you're nobody to blame
'Cause you're the only one who kept me safe
The poison and medicine
I'm healing but it's hard to breath
And I can feel it in my heart
that you never meant to start this fire
Faking smiles, cutting wires
They tie me to you
Everyone I've met has been replaced with
Every shade of blue
Now I'm getting all my colors back
Now that I get to choose
Who's walking beside me
Now I'm realizing
The roots of the storm that surround my youth
The ones that cut me through
Now I know, they come from you
The voices are getting loud
The hallways are getting dark
And you're nobody to blame
'Cause you're the only one who kept me safe
The poison and medicine
I'm healing but it's hard to breath
And I can feel it in my heart
that you never meant to start this fire
I don't wanna feel this way again
I'm scared, just want to numb the pain
Don't wanna hear, don't wanna see
The glass, it broke all over me
And even if it cut me deep
I started to heal
I'm standing still
