"Boney M." began as a Euro-Caribbean vocal group created by German record producer Frank Farian. Originally based in West Germany, the four original members of the group's official line-up were Liz Mitchell (lead singer) and Marcia Barrett from Jamaica, Maizie Williams from Montserrat and Bobby Farrell from Aruba. The group was formed in 1975 and achieved popularity during the disco era of the late 1970s. The group's catalogue has sold more than 150 million albums and singles worldwide with most sales in the UK and Germany. After celebrating Boney M.'s 10th anniversary in early 1986, the group officially disbanded, splitting into two groups with an original member in each, both bearing the 'Boney M' name. The male lead, Bobby Farrell, appeared as dancer in late 2005 in the Roger Sanchez videoclip of 'Turn on the music', and he was living in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, but passed away in 2010 from heart-failure. The lead singer of the group, Liz Mitchell, released her 5th solo album in 2005, entitled 'Liz Mitchell sings the hits of Boney M' -- She lives in a cottage in the Oxfordshire countryside, and makes a living touring pubs and clubs with the most successful of the Boney M 'franchises.' One of the original vocalists, Marcia Barrett, released her second album 'Come Into My Life' in 2005; -She lives in Florida. Former model, Maizie Williams, released her first solo record in December 2006, she lives in London, performing a one-woman cabaret act in pubs and clubs.
