Demetria Devonne "Demi" Lovato (born August 20, 1992) is an American singer-songwriter, musician, actor, and activist. They are involved in philanthropic activities through charity work and using their platform to raise awareness about the environment, LGBTQ+ issues, racism, injustice, etc. They are a pioneer in mental health advocacy; having battles eating disorders as well as mental illnesses and self harm their whole life. Lovato's earliest roles included Angela on Barney & Friends, and Charlotte on the Disney short series As The Bell Rings. They rose to prominence as the lead role of Mitchie in the 2008 film Camp Rock. In 2009, Lovato received their own Disney Channel television sitcom, Sonny with a Chance, and was co-lead in the film Princess Protection Program. After seeking treatment for their self harm and addiction, they later became a judge on the television competition show The X Factor from 2012 to 2013. In June 2018, Lovato revealed that after 6 years of sobriety they had relapsed. The following month, Demi suffered a near-fatal drug overdose. In their documentary Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil, they described having 3 strokes, a heart attack, and temporary blindness due to their overdose, as well as permanent brain damage leaving them with damaged eyesight. After taking time out of the spotlight to heal and recover, Demi revealed that they identify as non-binary and changed their pronouns to they/them. They identify as pansexual. With 2 Grammy nominations under their belt, Demi has proven to be a versatile power-vocalist. They are a lyric soprano with a range of C3 to Bb5 with a whistle register. They’re able to sing in genres ranging from pop, rock, ballads, musical theatre, jazz, R&B, country, and soul. In 2021, Demi released their latest album Dancing with the Devil… The Art of Starting Over. They also have a podcast titled 4D with Demi Lovato, a 4-episode special detailing paranormal experiences on Peacock called Unidentified with Demi Lovato, and a 10 episode talk show called The Demi Lovato Show.
