Summer came in like a westerly wind, and went out like a suicide
Winter fell down hard, it dropped in like a rock
There's nothing but these fields and forever to keep the walls from comin' in

The river rose as fast as the sunsets on the western sky
The low land surrended as the rain hit the ground
We lost the land, the crop, the car, and the insurance claim
We were beat, we were tired and yes, we were down

On the third day when the sky finally cleared, that's when the levy broke
