Jordi Baizan (ASCAP)

Jordi Baizan is a first generation American and native Texan songwriter. He has played hundreds of shows in the US, Canada, and Europe and released his sixth record in February of 2022. His songwriting, which American Songwriter (USA) has called “exquisite”, has garnered him recognition from several prestigious songwriting competitions including the Grassy Hill Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Competition, the Songwriter Serenade Competition, and the South Florida Folk Festival’s Singer/Songwriter Competition. Signed in 2019 by Berkalin Records, label owner Brian J. Kalinec says "Jordi's songs convey authenticity perfectly intertwined with memorable melodies. His unique voice and his stories draw you in from the beginning, and you can't wait to hear the next page.” Jordi’s 2019 album, Free and Fine, inspired Lonestar Time (Italy) to welcome Jordi “into the great family of true troubadours”. His latest album, The Love in You (2022), reached both the Folk DJ (USA) and Euro-Americana (Europe) charts at its release in February.

Desert Line
© 2017-2018 Jordi Baizan (ASCAP)

Sick and tired in Houston Run-down from the stress
Valerie and Bryan decided to move West
Bought a beat-up Airstream trailer, a real fixer-upper
Pulled into Terlingua just in time for supper

Now they’re free and fine on that desert line
They’ll be hard to find cause nothing’s bigger than Texas

An hour off the highway
20 miles from town
Like the yucca plant they set their roots in the unforgiving ground
No neighbors to contend with. No mosquitoes too
And when it rains I swear it smells just like God’s perfume

Now they’re free and fine on that desert line
They’ll be hard to find cause nothing’s bigger than Texas

You’d see them at the general store, they’d greet you with a smile
Their overflowing shopping cart would last them for awhile

The years passed by. Word got out to family and friends
One by one, more Airstreams headed towards Big Bend
To get back to the land, where the cost of living’s low,
Where it’s peaceful and it’s easy and the sunsets don’t get old

Now they’re free and fine on that desert line
They’ll be hard to find cause nothing’s bigger than Texas
Nothing’s bigger than Texas
