From the first we knew of you
You had a soul of deepest blue
Man you were one of those
Takes it further than it goes
The drunken Romeo
Women came and then they’d go
The gambler dressed up for the night
The bar-room smashed up in the fight
El Lobo shot up in the rain
The hobo never caught the train
But I’m with you in summertime
With the French girls and the wine
We had come to see the man
Bobby Dylan and The Band
And when he played your favourite song
You closed your eyes you
sang along
Your days seemed captured in his lines
One too many mornings and a thousand miles behind
Too many mornings turned to years
Too many warnings on deaf ears
Old friends move along
And a girl long gone
One night they put you in a cab
Your head bowed down and you looked bad
A lonely heart went out alone
Closing time there on your own
But I’m with you in summertime
With the French girls and the wine
We had come to see the man
Bobby Dylan and The Band
The wanted poster on your door
The licquor bottles on your floor
A fatal slavery in the veins
A desperado held in chains
And when they laid you in the ground
Big crowd of old friends gathered round
Then his song for you was song
Forever Young
For ever and ever young
Forever …
