Don Edwards

Don Edwards was an American cowboy singer and guitarist who performed Western music. He recorded several albums, two of which, Guitars & Saddle Songs and Songs of the Cowboy, are included in the Folklore Archives of the Library of Congress. Don Edwards was born in Boonton, New Jersey, in 1935 or 1936. He left home at the age of 16 to work on Texas oil fields and experience the western life. He made his professional debut in 1961 after he was hired as a singer, actor, and stuntman at the newly opened Six Flags Over Texas. He worked there for five years before moving to Nashville to seek a recording contract. In 1993 he appeared on Nanci Griffith's Grammy Award winning album Other Voices, Other Rooms on which he accompanied Griffith on a Michael Burton song entitled "Night Rider's Lament". Edwards passed away on October 23, 2022 at the age of 86.

We're alone Doney gal in the wind and hail,
We're driving them dogies out along the trail,
Rain or shine, sleet or snow,
Me and my Doney gal we're bound to go.

We ride the range from sun to sun,
For a cowboy's work is never done,
Rain or shine, sleet or snow,
Me and my Doney gal we're bound to go.

We're swimming rivers along the way,
And pushing for that north star day by day,
Rain or shine, sleet or snow,
Me and my Doney gal we're bound to go.

Well a cowboy's life is a dreary thing,
For it's rope and it's brand and it's ride and it's sing,
Rain or shine, sleet or snow,
Me and my Doney gal we're bound to go.

Steers are asleep on the new bed ground,
I'm drifting my Doney round and round,
Rain or shine, sleet or snow,
Me and my Doney gal we're bound to go.

Round the campfires flickering glow,
We sing the songs from long, long ago,
Rain or shine, sleet or snow,
Me and my Doney gal we're bound to go.
Me and my Doney gal we're bound to go.
