Rhythm and Rhyme

by Joe Kaplow

Singer/songwriter Joe Kaplow lives in a four-acre mansion in the hills of Santa Cruz. Of course, he shares the space with a group of hippies, some rats, and some very dilapidated floors and walls... but it does have a swimming pool. For Kaplow, becoming a full-time musician - and adopting the life…

Rest stop to rest. Stop. Rest to stop.
Another county taken and the tractor trailers shaking,
And I’m not to get out, not to get off
Burning through the rubber till the devil gets his cut and

Home for awhile, long to see her smile
Long to see her smile and the sound
Rhythm and rhyme calls me down the line
It calls me down the line and
The exit’s just a window I can look out for a while.

There is a farm butt up to the back of a rest stop in Virginia
Where I stopped to re-continue and a
Cattle fence, a lonely cattle fence
In a minute I’d be over running mama set a place I’m coming

Home for awhile, long to see her smile
Long to see her smile and the sound
Rhythm and Rhyme calls me down the line
It calls me down the line and
The exit’s just a window I can look out for a while.

Ask me about what happened to the dream
Don’t ever, ever ask about the time spent in between.

Home for awhile, long to see her smile
Long to see her smile and the sound
Rhythm and Rhyme calls me down the line
It calls me down the line and
The exit’s just a question that's always on my mind.
