Ghost Town

by Shannon McNeal

I live in a ghost town
All the people that move in
Turn into ghosts and don't come out
I watch spirits run in circles to the same places singing different sounds
This whole place is a burial ground

We are heard but we're still not found
We aren't paid but we bring the crowds
We're just trying to reach those silver lining clouds
By haunting the same old writers rounds

So yes I sell my soul for all these unpaid shows
Yes I sell my soul to reach this twilight zone
So like a phantom in disguise I'll have to captivate their eyes
Until I am whole
I'm just a little ghost just trying to find the notes
To make it on my own
To make it all alone

Too many ghosts are living in this town
It's just not big enough for how many float around
We're just chasing around the same old haunted dreams
So you gotta work smarter to be heard and to be seen.

People say you'll be a superstar when you first start but
Why do I feel translucent after I've come so far.
But they'll see me when I'm under stadium lights and
We work harder than most but people just don't believe in ghosts.

So yes I sell my soul so one day there will be sold out shows
Yes I sell my soul even though I'm free to roam
So like a phantom in disguise I'll have to captivate their eyes until I am whole
I'm just a little ghost just trying to find the notes
To make it on my own
To make it all alone
So yes I sell my soul to work harder than the crowds
So I won't be just a ghost to this town
