Makes Me Happy

by Stacey Earle

Stacey Earle (born September 25, 1960) is an American singer-songwriter. The sister of alt-country singer Steve Earle, she has recorded six albums, including four with her husband, musician Mark Stuart.

It's that every now and then
That one given moment
You say "please, don't let it end
It's mine and I own it"

Leaves my heart beating fast
And, then, it all seems clear
If I happen to ask
"Oh God, what am I doing here?"

I'll say that it makes me happy
Oh, isn't that all that matters anyway
As long as you can hear me laughing
You know I have lived for one day

Don't you forget it
That's not why I'm in it
No, that's not what that is for
It's worth a whole lot more

I can close my eyes, make it all go away
Open them up when I'm ready to stay
Keep those things there close in sight
Especially those things I really like

Day might just run for cover
As the darkness rolls in with it's thunder
But, I'll be all right as long as I can
Simply walk over and turn on a light
