"All Night Long" is a song written, arranged and produced by American musician Rick James for the Mary Jane Girls. In the U. S. the song enjoyed success on the Hot Black Singles Chart peaking at #11; on the Dance Chart it peaked at #8, but the song failed to succeed in the general public peaking only at #101 on the Billboard Bubbling Under the Hot 100 chart. It is their only hit song on the UK charts peaking at #13. The bassline interpolates Keni Burke's 1982 single "Risin' to the Top". The song has been heavily sampled since its inception, including by artists Groove Theory, LL Cool J and Mary J. Blige. The song was included in the soundtrack of the 2002 video game Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Billboard named the song #61 on their list of 100 Greatest Girl Group Songs of All Time.

Rick James (born James Ambrose Johnson, Jr.; February 1, 1948 – August 6, 2004) was an American singer, songwriter, musician and record producer, best known for being the major popularizer of funk music in the late 1970s and early 1980s thanks to million-selling hits such as "You and I" (1978), "Give It to Me Baby" (1981) and "Super Freak" (1981), the latter song crossing him over to pop audiences and selling over three million copies, later contributing to the success of rapper MC Hammer's "U Can't Touch This" (1990), which James sued to be credited for. James won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song with Hammer for the song, his only Grammy win. more »
