Ernest Dale Tubb (February 9, 1914 – September 6, 1984), nicknamed the Texas Troubadour, was an American singer and songwriter and one of the pioneers of country music. His biggest career hit song, "Walking the Floor Over You" (1941), marked the rise of the honky tonk style of music. In 1948, he was the first singer to record a hit version of "Blue Christmas", a song more commonly associated with Elvis Presley and his mid-1950s version. Another well-known Tubb hit was "Waltz Across Texas" (1965), which became one of his most requested songs and is often used in dance halls throughout Texas during waltz lessons. Now, if you love your mama and you treat her right
But she keeps on fussin' at you every day and night
Then she's gonna trifle on you
They'll do it every time
And when your baby starts to steppin', Lord, you nearly lose your mind

Now if your mama's mean, take a tip from me
Lock her up at home, Lord, but hang onto that key
'Cause she's gonna trifle on you
They'll do it every time
And when your baby starts to steppin', Lord, you nearly lose your mind

But if your mama's good, I'll tell you what to do
Give her lots of loving, Lord, but watch her closely too
'Cause she's gonna trifle on you
They'll do it every time
And when your baby starts to steppin', Lord, you nearly lose your mind

You come home to your mama, find your clothes ain't clean
You can bet you're slippin' if you know just what I mean
'Cause she's been triflin' on you
They'll do it every time
And when your baby starts to steppin', Lord, you nearly lose your mind

Now you may have a mama who says that she is true
But wait 'til you get down and out and really need her too
Then she's gonna trifle on you
They'll do it every time
And when your baby starts to steppin', Lord, you nearly lose your mind

Now I've been lot of places, there's not much I ain't done
But when it comes to women, Lord, I just don't trust a one
Because they trifle on you
They'll do it every time
And when your baby starts to steppin', Lord, you nearly lose your mind
Nearly drives you crazy
