Gimme Little Sign

About Gimme Little Sign

"Gimme Little Sign" is a classic soul music song, originally performed by Brenton Wood. It was released in 1967 on the album Oogum Boogum. It was written by Wood (under his real name, Alfred Smith), Joe Hooven and Jerry Winn. The most well known version is by Brenton Wood, which peaked at number 9 in the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, and also was top 10 in the UK Singles Chart and Australia. Mighty Mo Rodgers played the electronic organ on the recording. It has also been a hit for Danielle Brisebois in 1995, and also covered by the Sattalites, Hepcat, Mina, Don Dixon, Syl Johnson in 1979 on his album Uptown Shakedown and Peter Andre. Andre's version was his second single, released in 1992, which went on to win him an ARIA Award in 1993 for highest-selling Australian single of the year. It was also covered by Roberto Jordán and Cox in one Spanish version, and by Los Straitjackets in another. Jay Dee aka J-Dilla remixed the song, which was released as a 45 rpm promo, called 'Signs'. The song was also recorded by Constant Meeuws, a singer from a Dutch group called Skateboard, at the end of the 1970s and was produced by Rudy Bennett from the Motions. That single was released by Polydor Records.

If you do want me, gimme little sugar
If you don't want me, don't lead me on, girl
But if you need me, show me that you love me
And when I'm feeling blue and I want you
There's just one thing that you should do

Just gimme some kind of sign, girl
Oh, my baby
To show me that you're mine, girl
Oh yeah
Just gimme some kind of sign, girl
Oh, my darling
To show me that you're mine, girl
All right

If you do want me, gimme little sweet talk
If you don't want me, don't lead me on, girl
But if you need me, show me that you love me
And when I'm feeling down, wearing a frown
You'll be there when I look around

Just gimme some kind of sign, girl
Oh, my baby
To show me that you're mine, girl
All right
Just gimme some kind of sign, girl
Oh, my baby
To show me that you're mine, girl
All right
But

Just gimme some kind of sign, girl
Oh, my baby
To show me that you're mine, girl
Oh yeah
Just gimme some kind of sign, girl
Oh, my darling
To show me that you're mine, girl
All right

Just gimme some kind of sign
Ooh, sign
Just gimme some kind of sign, girl
Oh, my baby
To show me that you're mine, girl
All right
Just gimme some kind of sign
