Cool Places

Jane Wiedlin, Sparks

About Cool Places

"Cool Places" is a song recorded by American pop band Sparks in collaboration with the Go-Go's rhythm guitarist and backing vocalist Jane Wiedlin. The song was released as the lead single from Sparks's 1983 album In Outer Space. At the time, Sparks were at their most popular in the US, their two previous albums having dented the lower reaches of the Billboard 200 album chart. The single peaked at No. 49 on the Hot 100 in April 1983. The song's success followed the success of their previous single and only other Hot 100 entry "I Predict". Sparks recorded "Lucky Me, Lucky You" with Jane Wiedlin for the same parent album. Wiedlin also helped promote the album on tour and appeared at a few gigs to perform the duets. Wiedlin's band, the Go-Go's, performed the song on their 2006 tour, employing a more rock-driven style. The song continues to be a part of their live set. Alvin and the Chipmunks covered the song for their 2007 self-titled video game.

I want to got to cool places with you
I want to take you cool places tonight
I want to go where nobody's a fool
And no one says uh, "Hey girl, need a light?"

I want to move like this and that
A minimum of chit chat
I never want to cool down, cool down, cool cool cool,
Cool places tonight

I gotta tell you, you're lookin' real good
They let us in so I'm feelin' all right
I like to go where sometimes they refuse
Yeah, I remember last Saturday night

But I'm feeling cooler now
And they could tell we're cooler now
It's obvious we're cooler now, cooler now, cool cool cool,
Cool places tonight

[Chorus]
I want to go, I want to go, etc.
I want to go to cool places tonight
I want to go to cool places with you

And after that we'll slip out for a bite
A coffee shop, and toast, coffee and juice
And then we'll sleep 'til 5 p.m.
And start it up all over again
I never want to cool down, cool down, cool cool cool

[Chorus]

Sparks

Sparks is an American rock and pop band formed in Los Angeles in 1971 by brothers Ron (keyboards) and Russell Mael (vocals), renamed from Halfnelson. Best known for their quirky approach to songwriting, Sparks' music is often accompanied by intelligent, sophisticated, and acerbic lyrics, and an idiosyncratic, theatrical stage presence, typified in the contrast between Russell's wide-eyed hyperactive frontman antics and Ron's sedentary scowling. They are also noted for Russell Mael's falsetto voice and Ron Mael's keyboard style. more »
