My great-great grandmother Ethel McFerren Southwick lived with us for a few years in the early-1950s to the early 1960s, when I was a child. Once when we were listening to this song on the radio, she mentioned it reminded her of her first husband, Jesse Southwick. All I know about him is he left them, my Nana and my grandma Helen, as a single mother and her child. I assume Nana's reference to this song meant Jesse followed that wayward wind. At age 77, I still remember that early experience. more »
