"Broken Promise Land" is a song co-written by Bill Rice and Sharon Vaughn and recorded by country music singer Waylon Jennings in 1985 for his album Turn the Page as "The Broken Promise Land". John Schneider recorded a cover of the song also as "The Broken Promise Land" on his 1986 album Take The Long Way Home on MCA Records which peaked at #17 that year on the U. S. country charts. Then in 1990 Mark Chesnutt recorded a cover of the song. It was Chesnutt's fifth and final single released from his debut album Too Cold at Home. It peaked at #10 in the United States, and #7 in Canada in their respective Country Music charts. more »

Mark Nelson Chesnutt (born September 6, 1963 in Beaumont, Texas) is an American country music singer. Chesnutt recorded and released his first album, Doing My Country Thing, in the late-1980s on private independent record label, Axbar Records, with the vinyl album version now a collector's item.
