Yeah, said it's all right
I won't forget
All the times I waited patiently for you
I think you'll do just what you choose to do
And I will be alone again tonight, my dear

Yeah, I heard a funny thing
Somebody said to me
You know that I could be in love, with almost everyone
I think that people are the greatest fun
And I will be alone again tonight, my dear

Yeah, I heard a funny thing
Somebody said to me
You know that I could be in love with almost everyone
I think that people are the greatest fun
And I will be alone again tonight, my dear

Origin
"Alone Again Or" is a song by the American rock band Love. It is the opening track on their third studio album, "Forever Changes," released in 1967.
Songwriter
Unlike most of Love's songs, which were written by frontman Arthur Lee, "Alone Again Or" was written by the band's co-founder and guitarist Bryan MacLean.
Influences
The song is often noted for its flamenco-style guitar intro and the mariachi horns that feature throughout. These aspects highlight MacLean's interest in Spanish and Latino music.
Critical Reputation
In 2004, Rolling Stone ranked the song #442 on their 500 Greatest Songs of All Time list. The song has regularly been considered one of Love's greatest works.
Other Versions
Over the years, the song has been covered by various artists, including British rock band UFO, American alternative rock band The Damned, and singer-songwriter Calexico.
Commercial Use
The song has been used in various soundtracks, commercials, and television shows, such as the film "A Serious Man" and the TV show "Glee."
Unclear Meaning
The songwriter, Bryan MacLean, once revealed that the song's meaning was multi-leveled and not explicitly clear even to him. He said it could be about an encounter with a woman or about the experience of being on LSD.
Backing Vocals
MacLean initially intended the song to feature multi-layered vocals. However, the final version attributes the song's high ethereal backing vocals mainly to Love's drummer, Michael Stuart.
Acoustic Version
An acoustic version of "Alone Again Or," performed by MacLean, can be found on the album "Ifyoubelievein," released after his death in 1998.
Iconic Status
Despite not being broadly successful when first published, the song has since received critical acclaim and become an icon of the 1960s psychedelic rock era.
