I've Got Money

James Brown

About I've Got Money

"I've Got Money" is a song written and recorded by James Brown. It was released as the B-side of Brown's 1962 R&B hit "Three Hearts in a Tangle". It charted on its own, reaching #93 on the Billboard Hot 100. Both songs appeared on the album Tour the U. S. A.. Biographer R. J. Smith describes "I've Got Money" as "one of the less-known great records of Brown's career": It's a song whose time has yet to arrive, and it's barely a song. It's like a blueprint of some uncanny object. It's an assemblage of parts: a scimitar guitar chord coming down on the One, a show band horn chorus quoting Judy Garland's "The Trolley Song," and [Clayton Fillyau's] stampeding drums. The parts are arranged in a line, one beside the next - an incomprehensible rebus. Both Smith and Allmusic's Richie Unterberger point to the song as a stylistic precursor to Brown's later funk recordings. The Crazy World of Arthur Brown covered "I Got Money" on their 1968 self-titled debut album.

I've got money
And now I need love
I've got money
And now I need love
When I get my lovin'
I'll be the happy one

I've got money
No more money I need
Woah, I've got money
No more money I need
Hey, I don't have to worry
I don't have to let my heart leave
Hey, come on now
I need your love now
I need your love real fast
You're the best thing I ever had
Ohh yeah

I've got money now
No more money I want
Ohhh, but love, don't leave me don't
When I get my lovin'
I'll be the happy one

Ohhh, yeah, yeah, yeah
I need your love so bad
I need your love so bad
Turn your love-light on me
And ease my misery

Hey
I believe I'll sing the blues one more time
I believe I'll blow it one more again
I've got to try it one more time
I'm going insane

Hey come on
Ohhh yeah
I got to sing the blues
The best thing I ever had
I need your love so bad
Ohhh
Ohhh
Tell the truth
Tell the truth now, the truth
I gotta sing the blues for you
Goodbye, so long
That's all, I'm gone
Ahhhh
