About If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)

"If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)" is a song recorded by Bonnie Tyler for her 1986 rock album Secret Dreams and Forbidden Fire. It was written by Desmond Child and produced by Jim Steinman. Child has since stated that the song was re-written as "You Give Love a Bad Name" for Bon Jovi after he was dissatisfied with "If You Were a Woman (And I Was a Man)"'s chart success. Tyler re-recorded the song on her 2004 album Simply Believe. The song was successful in Europe, reaching number 6 in France and sold over 250,000 copies. The song also reached number 77 on the US Hot 100, and has since been Tyler's last hit single in the country.

How's it feel to be a woman
How's it feel to be a man
Are we really that different
Tell me where you stand
I look at you, you look away
Why do you say we're night and day
I'd like to try another way
Oh baby for just one day

If you were a woman and I was a man
Would it be so hard to understand
That a heart's a heart and we do what we can
If you were a woman and I was a man
If you were a woman and I was a man

How's it feel to be the hunter
How's it feel to be the prey
Is there really a reason
For this game we play
I look at you, you look away

Why do you say we're night and day
I'd like to try another day
Oh darling, just one day

If you were a woman and I was a man
Would it be so hard to understand
That a heart's a heart and we do what we can
If you were a woman and I was a man
If you were a woman and I was a man

Hey, we're just two people trying to love
Oh but how, how can we love
With this wall between us, holding us back

If you were a woman and I was a man
Would it be so hard to understand
That a hearts a heart and we do what we can
If you were a woman and I was a man
If you were a woman and I was a man

Bonnie Tyler

Bonnie Tyler (born Gaynor Hopkins on 8 June 1951) is a Welsh singer. Her first hit single, "Lost In France", reached the UK Top 10 in 1976 and she was nominated for Best British Female Newcomer at the 1977 Brit Awards. Soon after, Tyler underwent an operation to remove nodules from her vocal cords which left her with a distinctively husky voice. However, this did not affect her career and her 1977 single "It's a Heartache" became a hit in both Europe and North America. more »
