I'm a Nut

Leroy Pullins

About I'm a Nut

"I'm a Nut" is a 1966 Country novelty song by humorist Leroy Pullins (1940-1984). It was his only hit. "I'm a Nut" reached number 18 on the U. S. Billboard Country chart. It also crossed over to the pop charts of the U. S. and Canada, peaking at number 57 on the U. S. Hot 100 and number 71 on the Canadian RPM. The song is frequently misattributed to Roger Miller, who never recorded the song. Pullins was, however, both an admirer and imitator of Miller. On June 25, 2019, The New York Times Magazine listed Leroy Pullins among hundreds of artists whose material was reportedly destroyed in the 2008 Universal fire.

Beedle-dee-bah, beedle-dee-bah, beedle-dee-ree-pa-dom...

[Chorus]
I'm a nut, I'm a nut
My live don't ever get in a rut, whoop-whoop-whoop-whoop
The head on my shoulders is sorta loose
And I ain't got the sense God gave a goose
Lord, I ain't crazy, but ...I'm a nut

Is is wetter under water, if you're there when it rains?
Is it shorter to New York, than it is by a plane?
Between myself and I, I wonder who's the dumber
Is it hotter down south, than it is in the summer?

[Chorus]

I drove my Cadillac to Vegas to satisfy my lust
Wheelin', dealin', left ol' Vegas on a Greyhound bus
I shouldn't have set the woods on fire while I was there
But remember only forest fires prevent bears

[Chorus]

The poverty war will be over, when I begin to fight
If it took a dime to go 'round the world
I couldn't get out of sight
I don't mind to take the girls out
If they don't mind to go Dutch
Makes me feel like a million dollars
And I bet I ain't worth half that much

[Chorus]

Oh, crazy man! I'm a nut!
Oh, Lordy, Lordy Lordy, Lordy
I'm crazy, I'm a nut!

Leroy Pullins

Carl Leroy Pullins (November 12, 1940 - 1984) was an American country singer and guitarist. Pullins played in a group he put together called The LeSabres in the late 1950s, then relocated to Nashville. "I'm a Nut" was a hit novelty record written by Pullins himself, and reached #18 on the Billboard Country charts and #57 on the Billboard Hot 100. He released two albums on Kapp, one in 1966 and one in 1967, but further singles were not as successful as "I'm a Nut", and he eventually abandoned his career in music. He moved to Berea, Kentucky, where he was raised, and worked as a firefighter. He died of a heart attack at a… more »
