About Wildflowers

"Wildflowers" is a song by Tom Petty, the opening track from the eponymous album. The song became quite popular in concerts, and though it wasn't released as a single it charted on the Billboard Hot Rock Songs list (#16). Allmusic describes it as having a simple but effective folk-based chord progression, with a sprightly, almost country-oriented rhythm. The song has gone on to become one of the most beloved in Petty's catalog and is arguably the flagship song on the album. Petty also stated "Wildflowers" was easy to write and compose. It was one of the non-singles which were included on the compilation The Best of Everything (others were "Southern Accents", "Square One", "Angel Dream" and "Dreamville").

You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
Sail away, kill off the hours
You belong somewhere you feel free

Run away, find you a lover
Go away somewhere all bright and new
I have seen no other
Who compares with you

You belong among the wildflowers
You belong in a boat out at sea
You belong with your love on your arm
You belong somewhere you feel free

Run away, go find a lover
Run away, let your heart be your guide
You deserve the deepest of cover
You belong in that home by and by

You belong among the wildflowers
You belong somewhere close to me
Far away from your trouble and worries
You belong somewhere you feel free
You belong somewhere you feel free
