Pizzicato Five

Pizzicato Five (often known simply by the initials P5) was a Japanese pop group best known to audiences in the West in their later incarnation as a duo of Maki Nomiya and Yasuharu Konishi. The group, widely credited (along with Flipper's Guitar) with spearheading the shibuya-kei movement of Tokyo in the 1990s, is known for eclectic and energetic compositions that often pay homage to late 1960s American Pop Music. The catchphrase "A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular" captured the group's ironic stance and eager attitude. The group broke up in March 2001. more »

this morning as you woke up
what was the first thing
you thought?
was it about
the bad news you heard
last night in bed
or something like that?

today as always
under your window
there is a car
waiting
for you
a yellow rolls royce
a yellow rolls royce

this morning as you woke up
what was the first thing
you thought?
was it about
the new lover
you're supposed to meet
tonight?

today as usual
outside your door
there's a car
waiting
for you
a yellow rolls royce
a yellow rolls royce

the rolls royce you always
dreamt of
the rolls royce you bought
when you became
a star
a yellow rolls royce
a yellow rolls royce

you life speeds up
each time
faster
and faster
you and god
stepped on the accelerator
a yellow rolls royce
a yellow rolls royce

stop the car
you get off to
call someone
is it the lover from last night
or is it
your old
lover?
yer gonna ask your lover
to feed the pet
a yellow rolls royce
a yellow rolls royce

the rolls royce you always
dreamt of
the rolls royce you bought
at the crossroads of your life
the rolls royce you bought
when you were
happy
a yellow rolls royce
a yellow rolls royce

this morning as you woke up
what was the first thing
you thought?

your life speeds up
each time
faster
and faster
did god
warn you somehow
a yellow rolls royce
a yellow rolls royce
a yellow rolls royce
a yellow rolls royce
a yellow rolls royce

this morning as you woke up
what was
the first thing
you thought?

one day as you
wake up
you don't really
know where
you are

eventually you
realise that
the bed
you slept on
is not
your own bed

from the shut
curtains
a dim blue light
sifts
through
and your watch
is not under your pillow

you do not
even know
whether tis morning
or night
because of all the drinks you had last night
your head feels heavy
and the person who is
sleeping beside you
is not someone
you know
wait a minute no
actually it is someone
you met for the first time
at the party last night

you eventually
notice the sound
of thin rain outside
and then you
light a cigarette
this is something that has happened
many times
in your life
and it still
will
