Slippin' Away

About Slippin' Away

"Slippin' Away" is a country music song written by singer-songwriter Bill Anderson, and made famous in 1973 by Jean Shepard. Her first single since signing with United Artists records in 1973, "Slippin' Away" peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart late that summer. A mid-tempoed song in the Bakersfield tradition, it became Shepard's biggest hit in a decade (since 1964's "Second Fiddle (To An Old Guitar)" — and also her last top 10 hit. "Slippin' Away" marked at least the second time Shepard had a top 10 on the chart hit with an Anderson-penned tune; she had hit No. 8 on the Hot Country Singles chart in early 1970 with "Then He Touched Me." Shepard went on to enjoy success with one other Anderson-written song: 1975's "The Tips of My Fingers."

Monday's promise is Tuesday's lie
Saturday's party is Sunday's fight
Somethin's wrong with you and I
Love's gone wrong that used to be right

And I can feel it slippin' away
Slowly, slowly slippin' away
It'll be gone in a few more days
If we don't stop this love of ours
From slippin' away

Wednesday's kisses are Thursday's frowns
We can't live two days in a row
When our world's not upside down
Here we stand watchin' it go

And I can feel it slippin' away
Slowly, slowly slippin' away
It'll be gone in a few more days
If we don't stop this love of ours
From slippin' away

Roses are red, violets are blue
Sugar is sweet some of the time
This puzzle's missin' a piece or two
We've got the grapes but never the wine

And I can feel it slippin' away
Slowly, slowly slippin' away
It'll be gone in a few more days
If we don't stop this love of ours
From slippin' away

And I can feel it slippin' away
Slowly, slowly slippin' away
It'll be gone in a few more days
If we don't stop this love of ours
From slippin' away

And I can feel it slippin' away
Slowly, slowly slippin' away
It'll be gone in a few more days
If we don't stop this love of ours
From slippin' away
