Song Creation and Ownership"Because the Night" was originally written by Bruce Springsteen and Patti Smith while they were both working on separate albums at the same studio.
- Though whole melody is written by Bruce Springsteen, he was struggling to write lines for the chorus. During the same time, Patti Smith was in another studio working on their debut album and accepted the challenge to complete the lyrics.
- Thus, the song is sometimes attributed to the “Patti Smith Group” because they were the first to record and release it in 1978.
