About Policy of Truth

"Policy of Truth" is a song by English electronic band Depeche Mode, released in May 1990 as the third single from their seventh studio album Violator (1990). Although the song was less successful than the first two singles before, it is the only Depeche Mode single to chart higher on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart (#15) than on the UK Singles Chart (#16), as well as peaking at number two on the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart. It also became the band's second chart-topper on the Billboard Modern Rock Tracks chart.

You had something to hide
Should've hidden it, shouldn't you?
Now you're not satisfied
With what you're being put through

It's just time to pay the price
For not listening to advice
And deciding in your youth
On the policy of truth

Things could be so different now
It used to be so civilised
You will always wonder how
It could have been if you'd only lied

It's too late to change events
It's time to face the consequence
For delivering the proof
In the policy of truth

Never again is what you swore
The time before
Never again is what you swore
The time before

Now you're standing there tongue-tied
You'd better learn your lesson well
Hide what you have to hide
And tell what you have to tell

You'll see your problems multiplied
If you continually decide
To faithfully pursue
The policy of truth

Never again is what you swore
The time before
Never again is what you swore
The time before

Never again is what you swore
The time before
Never again is what you swore
The time before

Never again is what you swore
The time before
Never again is what you swore
The time before

Never again is what you swore
The time before
Never again is what you swore
The time before

Depeche Mode

Depeche Mode ( /dɨˈpɛʃ/) are an English electronic music band formed in 1980 in Basildon, Essex. The group's original line-up consisted of Dave Gahan (lead vocals, occasional songwriter since 2005), Martin Gore (keyboards, guitar, vocals, chief songwriter after 1981), Andy Fletcher (keyboards) and Vince Clarke (keyboards, chief songwriter 1980–81). Clarke left the band after the release of their 1981 debut album, Speak & Spell, and was replaced by Alan Wilder (keyboards, drums, occasional songwriter) with Gore taking over songwriting. Wilder left the band in 1995; Gahan, Gore, and Fletcher have since continued as a trio. more »
