About That's My Weakness Now

"That's My Weakness Now" is a song written by Sam H. Stept and Bud Green (words and music) in 1928. This became their first hit song together, having been made popular by singer Helen Kane that same year. Another recording in 1928 was by Paul Whiteman and his Orchestra, supported by a vocal group including Bing Crosby. It is used as the opening theme in the Vitaphone music and sound effects disc for the silent Laurel and Hardy short We Faw Down in 1928 and the same recording of the song is used to open the 1929 Laurel and Hardy talkie short The Hoose-Gow. It is also featured in the 1932 Krazy Kat cartoon Piano Mover and the Betty Boop cartoon Stopping the Show from the same year. The song is about being in love with someone so much that they start to like things their lovers like that they previously never cared for. Russ Morgan had a hit with the song in 1949 reaching the No. 17 spot in the Billboard charts.

Love, love, love, love,
Look what you've done to me!
The things I never missed,
Are things I can't resist!

Oh, love, love, love, love,
Isn't it plain to see,
I just had a change of heart,
What can it be?

He's got eyes of blue,
I never cared for eyes of blue,
But he's got eyes of blue,
And that's my weakness now!

He's got curly hair,
I never cared for curly hair,
But he's got curly hair,
And that's my weakness now!

Oh, my! Oh, me!
Oh, I should be good, I would be good,
But, gee!

He likes to bill and coo,
And I never cared to bill and coo,
But he likes to bill and coo,
So that's my weakness now!

He likes a saxophone,
I never cared for a saxophone,
But he likes a saxophone,
And that's my weakness now!

He likes those rainy days,
And I never cared for a rainy day,
But he likes a rainy day,
And that's my weakness now!

Oh, let it rain, let it pour,
'Cause I think he knows just what it's rainin' for!

He likes a long good-night,
And I never had a long good-night,
But he likes a long good-night,
So that's my weakness now!

And he likes boop-boop-a-doop,
And I never cared for boop-boop-a-doop
But he likes a boop-boop-a-doop,
So, that's my weakness now!

And he likes butt'n dutt'n da-da-da,
I never cared for butt'n dutt'n da-da-da,
But he likes but-dut-da-da,
So, that's my weakness now!

What's more, what's more,
Oh, I think he knows what but-dut-da is for!

And he likes boop-boop-a-doop,
I never cared for a boop-boop-a-doop
But he likes to boop-boop-a-doop,
That's my weakness now!

Ooh, that's my weakness now!
