About Antichrist Superstar

"Antichrist Superstar" is a promotional-only single from Marilyn Manson's second studio album of the same name. The song itself is symbolic of the climax of the concept album's story, the point where the abused and wretched victim at the center of the tale takes on the identity of the nihilistic culture war iconoclast Antichrist Superstar, rampaging the world and destroying anything in his path. This image is conveyed by the song's triumphal and ominous tone; the guitar riffs are deliberately reminiscent of horns and trumpets in a totalitarian rally, in which Manson sings, and could be an allusion to how his critics see him as a threat to Christian morality and, therefore, the world. In concert, Marilyn Manson usually sings the song atop a podium in a stage filled with banners embellished with the album's distinctive "lightning bolt/shock" symbol, much like the Nazi Nuremberg Rallies and sings the song with highly exaggerated body movements and postures meant to mock and parody dictators and televangelists.

You built me up with your wishing hell
I didn't have to sell you
You threw your money in the pissing well
You do just what they tell you
REPENT that's what I'm talking about
I shed the skin to feed the fake
REPENT that's what I'm talking about
Whose mistake am I anyway?
Cut the head off
Grows back hard
I am the hydra
Now you'll see your star
Prick your finger it is done
The moon has now eclipsed the sun
The angel has spread its wings
The time has come for bitter things (chorus)
The time has come it is quite clear
Our antichrist
Is almost here
It is done

Marilyn Manson

Brian Hugh Warner (born January 5, 1969), better known by his stage name Marilyn Manson, is an American rock musician and former music journalist known for his controversial stage persona and image as the lead singer of the eponymous band Marilyn Manson. His stage name was formed from juxtaposing the names of two American cultural icons, namely actress Marilyn Monroe and multiple murder convict Charles Manson as a critical and, simultaneously, laudatory appraisal of America and its peculiar culture. The seemingly outrageous visual and vocal styles he employs, his unique interpretations of familiar songs and the controversy surrounding his lyrics and imagery have led to his very pronounced public appeal. more »
