About Steer

"Steer" is the first single from Missy Higgins' second album, On a Clear Night. The song was released in Australia on 14 April 2007 and became the most-added track that same week. Higgins stated that the song was "about steers" and that she wrote it after overlooking the southern celestial hemisphere from a bay in Western Australia. The song has instrument backings of acoustic guitar and drums. The single reached the number-one spot on the Australian Singles Chart in the first week of its release, dethroning Avril Lavigne's "Girlfriend" for a single week. It became Higgins' second number-one single, after 2004's "Scar", from her first album The Sound of White. At the end of 2007, the song appeared at number 60 on the Australian year-end chart, becoming the second lowest-selling number-one hit of the year (that didn't reach number one in 2006), behind "2 Hearts" by Kylie Minogue. Despite this, it still received a Gold certification from ARIA for sales exceeding 35,000 copies. Melissa "Missy" Morrison Higgins (born 19 August 1983) is an Australian singer-songwriter, musician and actress. Her Australian No. 1 albums are The Sound of White (2004), On a Clear Night (2007) and The Ol' Razzle Dazzle (2012), and her most successful singles are "Scar", "The Special Two", "Steer" and "Where I Stood". Higgins was nominated for five ARIA Music Awards in 2004 and won 'Best Pop Release' for "Scar". In 2005, she was nominated for seven more awards and won five. Higgins won her seventh ARIA in 2007.
