Charles Button

Charles Edward Button (23 August 1838 – 27 December 1920) was a solicitor, Supreme Court judge, Mayor of Hokitika and later Birkenhead, and an independent conservative Member of Parliament in New Zealand. Born in Tasmania, he came to New Zealand with his wife in 1863. He first lived in Invercargill, then in Westland, and after a brief period in Christchurch, he settled in Auckland. He was an MP for two periods, and when he was first elected to Parliament, he beat his colleague, friend, political opponent and later Premier Richard Seddon; this was the only election defeat ever suffered by Seddon. more »

A French policeman
Is taking me in
Breaking my sin down
A friend got dusted
Looks like I'm busted
Shouldn't have trusted
Shouldn't have been around

Listen mister
I'm standing my back to the wall
(In Bologna you can pay for it all)
I think you missed it
I'm really just a small principal
(He took a beak and now he's taking a fall)

At first she took me
She second looked me
She had it all planned out
It was so easy
To bluff and tease me
Until the badge fell out
Listen mister
I'm standing my back to the wall
(In Bologna you can pay for it all)
I think you missed it
I'm really just a small principal
(He took a beak and now he's taking a fall)

I say
All right its all right
(No lines to cross no war to win)
We got no reason no reason to fight
(Know where you are know where to begin)

A French police car
Taking me far
From her boudoir
(Au-revoir)
I'm in my jail cell
This is farewell

I say
All right it's all right
(No lines to cross no war to win)
We got no reason no reason to fight
(Know where you are know where to begin)
All right its all right
(No lines to cross no war to win)
We got no reason no reason to fight
(Know where you are know where to begin)

There must be something to it
I send my heart out to you
