I was having some coffee this morning thinking about my past Watching the morning sun come in funny how memories last Staring down in my coffee cup that old familiar taste Like the tune that brings back the memory of a different time and place A good ol' country tune coffee stains on the dash Foot clicker to switch high beams windows down singing some Cash Grandma's biscuits and gravy her cornbread and sweet tea And Grandpa had his old tackle box night crawlers down by the creek And Grandma would say come on in y'all wash up and let's eat She'd have fried okra chicken and taters pecan pie for a treat Grandma would tell us boys Yuns better be good She'd brake off the limb of a hickory tree just to make sure we understood And Grandpa would load up his truck head to the flea market on the weekend He liked to stand around and talk to everybody and make new friends Didn't matter if he sold anything wasn't about the buck It was about the coffee the smile and a cigarette from the back of his truck Good ol' Caroline My other Grandma played the organ at the church and she sang My other Grandpa took me to Birmingham and showed me about the iron industry Turns out our family had a steel company made a fortune in the south But China moved in eventually forced all them jobs out With all that cheap steel couldn't compete with the price At least Birmingham's steel was strong and it always looked nice Because of what happened to my family and the rest of the USA I try to make sure that I buy products made right here today As I sip on this coffee looking out in my driveway I can't help but smile cause I'm looking at a Ford Jeep and Chevrolet Takes me back to that dirt road holler in Caroline Used to jump out lock the hubs in yonder back to get some shine The white lightening days are gone came and gone away But them old true moonshiners legends are still around today I can remember that taste of that batch they made back in '85 That Carolina clear a couple of sips you couldn't even drive Good ol' Caroline When I hear a country song it reminds me of the south I'm in Minnesota but my hearts in the south without a doubt It can be 20 below be knee deep in snow But in my mind I'm just find cause I'm in the Blue Ridge don't you know With all them yee haws good southern meals Yesmam's and no sirs tackle boxes and rods and reels My Grandpa's might be in the ground but the iron and fishing remains Cut off China and we could be fortunate in the art again USA could bring back steel and have a sweet success And I heard that Minnesota's Iron Range puts out some of the best Birmingham could get back on track running full speed It could build up companies provide everything everybody in need I'm going to tell y'all what no matter if you're democrat or republican Whether you're black or white I don't give a damn Y'all can all come on in From Carolina to Minnesota and everywhere in between If you're a good person you love the USA then I guess you're a friend to me Good ol' Caroline
